The client is more than a decade old underground mining services company proving conveyor services, 3D scanning and servicing in Australia.
Scope
The scope of the work was to create a Revit Model at LOD 300 from the Point Cloud Scans provided by the client for a conveyor system. The project consisted of a mix of Structural BIM along with Mechanical Modelling for the heavy equipment. We had to model structure joinery such as gusset plates, stiffener which were visible in point cloud.
Challenges
- The scans provided by the client were not very clear. We had to request the client to send us the on-site pictures for the areas where scans were not clear. We had to confirm with the client multiple times to model it correctly. However, with out in house Structural and Mechanical Engineers, we were able to model it efficiently.
- We modelled most of the elements identically to the scans; however, scans of chains, I-beams, etc., were not clear.
- We had to raise several RFIs to receive this information, due to which the project schedule was impeded. However, Tesla CAD Solutions was able to deliver the project on the specified delivery date.
